JOINT ANALYSIS OF SURFACE WAVES WITH MASW-REMI
The REMI algorithm has been implemented and added to the software MASW.It is now possible to analyze the surface waves using jointly the MASW and the REMI methods with the same software.
The MASW method allows to determine the shear wave velocity profile Vs within the first 30m of depth, hence it allows the seismic site classification according to the international codes.
The REMI method (Louie, 2001) is based on the analysis of surface waves generated by environmental noise, characterized by low frequency content, usually comprised between 10Hz and 15Hz. The REMI method does not allow to accurately determine the shear wave velocity profile within the first 30m as the MASW method does, nevertheless the REMI method offers the advantage to reach the layers deeper than 30m, sometimes down to 100m according to Louie.
The new joint analysis MASW-REMI put together the advantages of both the two methods into a unique software, which is able to provide a reliable shear wave velocity profile, not only within the first 30m, but also down to deeper layers.
On September 2009 the new version of the software MASW will be available on this web site.
